Strolling around the Opera neighborhood, with its intricate gardens, music filled plazas, and spectacular views of the cathedral and royal palace, you may not realize that the nucleus of the electro-funk music scene in the city is just footsteps away at Marula Café. This energetic nightclub and terrace is actually beneath Puente de Segovia—the looming aqueduct-inspired bridge on Calle Bailen—offering spectacular panoramic views of the bridge’s sweeping arches, in addition to the dynamic jam sessions, DJs, concerts, and global parties.

On warm summer evenings, the expansive terrace at Marula Café is ideal for relaxing over cold drinks while enjoying the weather. Spacious and cool, the terrace holds several tables and wicker armchairs that are shaded by a canopy of leaves. Within this plush natural ambience, Puente de Segovia creates an impressive modern contrast, and at night its wide, lit up arches provide a striking display. But don´t end the evening with this serene outdoor ambience. Marula Café’s vibrant nightclub, which opens at 11:30 p.m., features an explosion of sounds and fusions of electro-funk music. Deemed by many as the “most funky club in the city,” the chic disco reverberates with lively beats inspired by African American music. Here you will find fusions of jazz and soul, Brazilian funk and Latin grooves, blues, broken beats, deep house, and retro-future beats. The posh setting features a gallery of illuminated contemporary artwork—creating a uniquely interesting dance floor. Both the terrace and salon offer a variety of mixed drinks, sorbets, and cocktails—with fun options like piña coladas, caipiroskas, and mango daiquiris. Drinks are cheaper on the terrace and earlier in the evening. The club also hosts a variety concerts and DJs, as well as a weekly jam session with local funky artists (see www.marulacafe.com for a calendar of upcoming events).
