Best Sushi in Madrid: Robato

Robato
Calle de la Reina, 31

(tel: 91 521 8528)

Welcome to the place that outdoes all others! Robato is on another echelon in terms of sophistication and simplicity. Granite grey and black slate are the predominant features here, along with the ripped waiters who can almost distract you from the great food.

I’ll come straight to the point here: this place is priced higher than others, but the nigiri has obviously been designed, not just made. Temperatures have been monitored, rice-stickiness has been measured, and presentation has been double-checked.

The quality of the food here is such that you don’t feel like stuffing yourself. Satisfaction comes from less, not more and the urge to finish the meal with that roll-me-home feeling is absent. For instance, even the miso is more than just miso: the seaweed tastes fresh, and mushrooms and scallions have been mixed in to offset the miso powder flavor. It works. Expect to pay about 90 euros for two people here.

Go for the attention to detail, the quality of the food, and hey, keep your eyes off the waiters for God’s sake.
