El Fabuloso: Throw Yourself Back in Body, Mind and Music
These days are our happy days… And I’m sure The Fonze and friends would be more than happy to swap Arnold’s diner for a night at El Fabuloso. The 50s themed bar/club that you’ll find just off Gran Vía was opened by ex-Killer Barbies star, Silvia Superstar, back in 2009 and is home to cocktails, couches and classic 50s décor all week. With two floors you can choose to grab a seat upstairs at the high-ceilinged chill-out bar and enjoy one of the many fine drinks on offer. Or should you fancy a bit more blood-pumping fun then take yourselves downstairs to the basement bar where you’ll walk into what you could mistake for a time warp back to a 1950s homestead. One of my personal favorite features is the authentic hair-drying contraption in the ladies bathroom, providing the perfect prop for some crazy candid moments whether drunk or sober.
With a mixture of 50s furniture and lighting, this place is unavoidably authentic in appearance and the soundwaves bouncing off the patterned wallpaper further affirm the era that you’ve entered. Get those comfy swing-dancing shoes at the ready because you’ll be jive bunnying around the petite dance floor before you know it, and will find it hard to stop until the music fades. If you’re bored of hearing the same old dance tunes in the regular clubs or fed up of the minimal or modern ‘chic’ looking locations, then take a trip to C/Estrella. Both fun and friendly, the atmosphere keeps a steady crowd all week but on Friday and Saturday nights El Fabuloso gets particularly popular and you may meet a small line outside on arrival, but believe me it’s worth the (short) wait to get in as the party inside is a special one. El Fabuloso also holds host to small acoustic live music performances and you can find their page on Facebook for more information.
