Lesson Plan: Art
Level: solid intermediate and above
Prep: zero
Duration: one hour

Can LSD, rap and video games all be part of a discussion
about the nature of art? Of course! Welcome to another TEFL-lesson-plan
Monday. We sincerely hope our lesson
plan starts your week off on the right foot.

Here in Madrid, the arrival
of ARCO, one of the largest contemporary art fairs in Europe,
has inspired us to do an art lesson.
Recognizing art as vital part of life and not merely an elitist or
academic preoccupation, we are keeping it very real.

All you need to do is ask your students to each write a
short definition of art on a piece of paper (five minutes). After that have them read their definitions
aloud. It is good to jot down a few brief
notes on the board for each response, for example:

Maria: beautiful and inspiring
Jose: Collections in galleries and museums

Once everyone has voiced their opinions about art, pass out
the lesson and see how comprehensive and “correct” their definitions were.

Enjoy.
